Former Pennsylvania State Treasurer Rob McCord plans to plead guilty to federal charges related to an investigation into campaign contributions. McCord announced on Thursday that he was resigning from his position after six years in office. McCord released a video message via his lawyer Friday afternoon saying that his did not misuse campaign funds, but did tell two potential donors that he would make it difficult for them to do business if they did not support him. Yesterday, he said that he would step down on February 12 ,however today he said that his resignation would be effective immediately after word of the investigation became public. “I stepped over the line by trying to take advantage of the fact that two potential contributors hoped to continue to do business with the commonwealth and by developing talking points to remind them that I could make things difficult for them,” McCord said in the video. “I essentially said that the potential contributors should not risk making an enemy of the state treasurer. Clearly that was wrong, I was wrong. It was a mistake. I stand ready to pay the price for that mistake.”

A doctor and a receptionist in Delaware County have been arrested on charges of distributing illegal prescriptions of highly addictive painkillers. Dr. Steven Friedman, 74, of Newtown Square, and Margaret McGowan, 78, of Broomall have been charged with writing prescriptions for patients that the doctor did not even examine for medications like oxycodone. An undercover officer was able to walk into the office without an appointment and walk out with a prescription without any examination. The two turned themselves into the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division headquarters this morning and were arraigned. Bail was set at $500,000 unsecured. They face multiple counts of illegal administration and distribution and criminal conspiracy.

A federal agent opened fire during an attempted carjacking this morning in a Wilmington parking garage. It happened just after 8:00 a.m. at a busy downtown garage at 11th and Tatnell streets. A U.S. Homeland Security special agent was parking his government car when he was approached by the car jacker. The agent fired one shot in self-defense and the car jacker fled. He was apprehended moments later by Wilmington Police. Homeland Security and local authorities are investigating the incident. Local drivers who use the garage are concerned that if this could happen to an agent what could happen to them.

UPDATE: No charges will be filed against the man taken into custody in the alleged car jacking incident Friday morning in Wilmington, DE. After an investigation, it was determined that the man's actions did not constitute an attempted car jacking and he was released. The agent did fire his weapon. An internal investigation will determine if he fired in self defense or if the gun discharged accidentally. No one was injured.

Tonight,
Windy, temperatures falling through the 20's this evening in Center City.
