Mummers Parade in Philadelphia; Hepatitis A Cases; U2's Bono May Never Play Guitar Again

The 115th annual Mummers Parade kept the New Year's Day tradition alive in Philadelphia. In an event that is unique to Philadelphia, string bands, comics and other costumed, feathered performers danced all day to ring in the new year. Some traditionalists were unhappy with the change in the parade route. This year, the Mummers parade started at City Hall and moved south instead of ending at City Hall after moving north. But the crowds were there and the Mummers tradition continued.

The Hamilton Township Health Department announced Thursday evening that it has been informed of two additional confirmed cases of Hepatitis A. Health officials confirmed that both individuals in these new cases had eaten or received catering from Rosa's Restaurant at 3442 South Broad Street in Hamilton Township, New Jersey during the first confirmed case of Hepatitis A in November. The newest confirmations came late Wednesday evening. The patient is an employee of The Hair Port Salon, in Hamilton Township. The employee has been released at the hospital and is recovering at home.

Bono, the 54 year old frontman for rock band U2 says he may never play guitar again. Bono now has a titanium elbow due to injuries he suffered in a New York City cycling accident. Bono suffered multiple injuries, including fractures to his left eye socket, shoulder blade and left elbow, when he crashed his bike in Central Park in November. He required hours of surgery after what doctors called a "high-energy bicycle accident." On the band's website yesterday, Bono said the "recovery has been more difficult than I thought.” He added that his bandmates reminded him that neither they nor Western civilization are depending on this.
