Baby Born on SEPTA Train; Volunteers Help Flooded Tredyffrin Library; Anonymous Santa Make Delivery

A Christmas baby was born yesterday on board a SEPTA train. Two transit Police officers delivered a baby when mom went into labor and firefighters carried the newborn baby boy up the steps and to a waiting ambulance at 15th and Market Streets in Center City. The two officers heard the call over their radios and rushed to help with the delivery. Before rushing off to the hospital, the proud father took photos with the Septa officers who helped with his son's birth. Mom and baby are doing well.

A flood had volunteers scrambling over the holidays to save the books at the Tredyffrin Public Library. A plumbing malfunction caused part of the library to flood on the day after Thanksgiving destroying carpets, furniture, shelves and drywall. The financially strapped library has counted on volunteers over the last several weeks to rescue anything they can. Boy Scout troops and local neighbors have stepped up to help the library recover and organize over 70,000 books.

A South Philadelphia man living on social security was reminded how good people can be this Christmas season. Cliff Hunter, 79 boarded a SEPTA bus on December 18th with a package containing a sweater he had found, cleaned, repaired and planned to mail to his 71 year old sister for Christmas. In his haste, Hunter got off the bus without the sweater and after several calls to SEPTA it had not been turned in, But on Christmas morning, Hunter got a call from his sister thanking him for the beautiful sweater. An anonymous Santa had taken the package to the post office, paid over $8 in postage, and delivered the gift as addressed.
