A Philadelphia judge found a man guilty today of first degree murder in the shooting death of an off-duty police officer. Judge Jeffrey Minehart ruled in the non-jury trial that 25-year-old Rafael Jones was guilty of the attempted robbery and murder of 40-year-old Officer Moses Walker Jr in August 2012. Walker had just finished his overnight shift in the 22nd police district in North Philadelphia and was walking to public transportation when he was approached by two men who attempted to rob him. Co-defendant Chancier McFarland testified in a plea deal that the pair thought Walker was a Temple student and an easy mark. The off-duty cop was shot and killed when tried to run and he reached for his gun. McFarland plead guilty to third degree murder and was sentenced to 20-40 years. Jones gets an automatic life sentence.

Philadelphia Police have released surveillance video of an armed robbery that took place early Wednesday morning at a home in Northeast Philly. It happened around 5:00 a.m. on the 7100 block of Large Street in the Oxford Circle neighborhood. The video shows the two 24-year-old male victims approaching the home when the two suspects come up from behind. The victims say the men were armed with handguns. One suspect took a victim's bag containing $1,000's in cash, an iPad Air, and identification. The other suspect took the other victim's keys including car keys. The victims were able to break away and call police when the suspects tried to pull them away from the front of the house. Both suspects are described as black males in their early 20's, 5' 6”, one wearing a black hooded sweatshirt the other wearing a grey one. If you have any information call 215.686.TIPS (8477) or text PPD TIP. The one victim was preparing to head overseas to China for his mother's funeral and his bag contained $7,000 for travel and funeral expenses and well as his passport.

Police have identified the two suspects wanted for a violent and brazen robbery at a coin collecting shop in Bensalem. The incident took place at the Coin and Collectible store in the Bensalem Plaza shopping center in the 2100 block of Street Road on Tuesday afternoon around 2:45 p.m. Police are looking for David Piergrossi and Daniel Leflar. (pictured underneath) They are considered armed and dangerous. The two men came into the store armed with a large knife, a pipe, and a hammer and began barking orders at the 68-year-old shop owner and his 56-year-old employee. They smashed some display cases and stole around 100 silver dollars. At one point a customer came in, not knowing a robbery was taking place, and was tied up by the suspects. They fled on foot. The whole incident was caught on video surveillance. Anyone with information should contact Bensalem police.
