South Philly Double Shooting; NJ Drunk Driver Faces Charges; Northeast Philly Crash Kills One

One man was killed and an innocent bystander injured last night in a South Philadelphia double shooting. According to police, a 35-year-old man, the intended target, was shot in the head at about 7:50 PM in the 600 Block of Winston Street. He was pronounced dead at Thomas Jefferson Hospital at 8:08 PM. A 56-year-old man was taken to the same hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound in the stomach. He is a SEPTA driver who was checking on his mother's property. He is in critical condition.

33-year-old Marcus Ortega of Monmouth County, NJ is facing DUI charges for hitting a pedestrian and then continuing to drive with the victim stuck in his windshield. Ortega struck 61-year-old Kenneth Moeller yesterday morning on Route 9, near South Main Street in Ocean Township. He allegedly continued driving until he was stopped by an officer who had been notified of a drunk driver. Moeller remains in critical condition. Ortega is being held on $150,000 bail.

A Northeast Philadelphia car crash has left one woman dead and one man in critical condition. Police say a 21-year-old woman was driving north on Algon Avenue yesterday morning when she collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Algon and Cottman Avenue at 4:11 a.m. The woman was ejected through the driver side window of her car. She was taken to Aria Health's Torresdale Campus, where she died at 6:37 a.m. The 66-year-old driver of the other car was taken to hospital in critical condition.
