SEPTA Officer Injured; ACT Exams Lost; Man Charged with Aggravated Assault

An officer of SEPTA transit was attacked yesterday afternoon while trying to end a fight between high school students. He tried to stop a group of girl brawl when a teenage boy punched him in the side of the head. No arrests have been made yet, but the officer is being treated at Temple University Hospital.

High school students of Upper Darby High who had their ACT exams lost in the mail will be able to retake them. They will be allowed to retest, for free, in several weeks. Parents remain angry because the loss of results caused many of their children to have to wait to submit early-action college applications. ACT continues to apologize to those affected.

Dondi DeCosta was charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats, among several others crimes, after threatening citizen William Lawler and his girlfriend at a Northeast Philadelphia supermarket. Lawler shot DeCosta in the groin out of self-defense when DeCosta came at him with a knife. DeCosta was arrested and his bail is set to $75,000.

Sports:
The Sixers lost to the Pistons 103-109 last night, and the Flyers play Detroit, Saturday at 7.

Weather:
Sunny with some scattered clouds, high of 67 in Center City.
