Chaka Fattah Scrutiny; Students Protest SRC;Ebola threatens Woman and Dog

Democratic Philadelphia Congressman Chaka Fattah is being scrutinized by federal auditors and government watchdog groups who are following the money flowing through Fattah’s non-profit organizations. Three people with ties to his non-profits have been convicted of federal crimes. Fattah has denied participating in any illegal activity as he seeks an 11th term in office.

A group of Philadelphia high school students seized social media to organize a demonstration this morning to protest the School Reform Commission’s move to force its hand on Union teachers. About 100 students wearing red gathered at South Philadelphia’s School for the Performing Arts at Broad and Christian. They claim the SRC is taking money from teachers in order to buy pencils and paper, which they say are meaningless without good teachers.

Ebola has found its way into Europe and is threatening the life of a female Spanish nursing assistant and her dog. The woman was part of a medical team in Madrid that had treated a Spanish priest who died of Ebola last month after being evacuated from Sierra Leone. Now, the woman has been diagnosed with the deadly disease and health officials scrambling to contain the Ebola virus, plan to euthanize and incinerate her dog.
