Middle School Teacher Accused of Sexual Misconduct; Abusive Van Ride Settlement; Kane Refuses Emails

A middle school teacher has been charged amid allegations he had sex with a 15 year old student. Thirty eight year old William Barber is a Phys. Ed and Health teacher at Garnet Valley Middle School and a coach of the football and baseball teams. Barber started the viral “lemon shot challenge” to benefit pediatric cancer on social media to help his daughter who is sick.

Philadelphia taxpayers will foot the $490,000 settlement of a lawsuit for a man who says police took him for an abusive ride in a police van. James McKenna had a confrontation with a police officer in 2011. In the suit McKenna says he was handcuffed and thrown into the van. Police subjected him to a ride that sent him bouncing around the back of the van until he broke his neck.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane has denied a bid to make public e-mails exchanged by former and current state employees that contained pornographic images, jokes, cartoons and other private messages. The Philadelphia Inquirer had requested the emails under the state’s Right-to-Know law. Kane’s office determined the material did not fall under the law’s definition of public record.
