Philadelphia Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with the execution-style shooting deaths of two women in a Mayfair home. 25-year-old James Mears is charged with two counts of murder, robbery and other related offenses. 67-year-old Dollie Evans and 59-year-old Ruby Thomas were found inside Evans' home on the 4700 block of Vista Street in Northeast Philadelphia before 6 p.m. Saturday. Thomas was found in the living room while Evans was found in a second floor bedroom. Both had been shot in the head. Evans had an open door policy and would help anyone who needed it, including feed and house the homeless. Police say that robbery was the motive. Mears knew that Evans has cash on hand and stole $500 from the house. Mears had been staying in the house as a guest.

A flight from Newark, NJ to Denver, CO was diverted to Chicago after two passengers got into a mid-flight fight over the reclining seat and a device called “Knee Defender”. It happened on United Flight 1462 on Sunday. Midway through the flight, the male passenger in row 12 decided to use the device (which attaches to the tray table) to prevent the person in from reclining while he used his laptop. The FAA allows individual airlines to set their own policies regarding the device. United Airlines and all other major US airlines prohibit it. The flight attendant ask him to remove it and he refused. That's when the woman in the seat in front of him stood up and threw water in his face. The plane was then diverted to Chicago and the two unruly passengers were let off into the hands of the TSA. There were no arrests but the FAA can impose a fine of $25,000 to unruly passengers. They were not allowed to continue to Denver. Both passengers were also sitting in United's Economy Plus section which has four more inches than the rest of coach.

Police have arrested one man in connection with a series of targeted attacks on the elderly. They are still looking for two more suspects. 43-year-old Keith Perkins is charged with robbery, theft, simple assault, criminal conspiracy and other related offenses. Police are looking for his accomplices, 28-year-old Joseph Donaldson and 52-year-old Ronald Singleton. Police say that the men are responsible for 11 robberies dating back to April. They usually will follow an elderly person after they go to the bank and attack them near their home. They may be driving a white Honda Civic or a silver Chevy Malibu. Anyone with information is urged to call Philadelphia Police at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
