The northbound lanes of I-495 in Wilmington, DE reopened Saturday ahead of schedule. After a stress test by DelDOT, the all clear was given and lanes were open to traffic around 3:15 pm Saturday afternoon. I-495 around Wilmington was closed on June 2nd after tilting in the support columns of the bridge over the Christiana River was discovered. A dirt pile near the bridge was blamed for damage. The southbound lanes were opened on July 31st, a month a head of schedule. The northbound lanes were expected no later than Labor Day, September 1st. This stretch of highway normally carries 90,000 vehicles daily. Additional work and permanent repairs are ongoing, but the roadway is now safe for travel.

Mayor Michael Nutter and the City of Philadelphia are planning a Welcome Home ceremony for the Little League Mid-Atlanic Champions Taney Dragons. The Dragons will be returning home to the city on Sunday after a terrific run in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. They were one win away from the United States championship game. The City will hold a celebration for the team at Love Park around Noon on Sunday, August 24th as the team arrives back. Come out and show your support!

Two women were found shot to death inside a home in Northeast Philadelphia. It happened at 5:30 pm Saturday on the 4700 block of Vista Street in the Mayfair/Holmesburg neighborhood. Family identified them as 67-year-old Dollie Evans, who was the homeowner, and 59-year-old Ruby Thomas. The two lived together. Evans brother said he had just dropped them off after food shopping. He also said that she received a death threat recently and her grandson was shot 11 times two months ago. The investigation continues.
