Free Blake Shelton Concert, Nutter Blasts Legislators, Ramsey Calls Corruption Case the Worst

More than 60,000 people jammed the beach in Atlantic City yesterday for a free concert with country music artist Blake Shelton. Ticket holders came from 48 states according to Ticketmaster. Another free concert is coming this weekend when country music stars, Lady Antebellum will take the stage on the beach on Sunday.

Mayor Nutter is accusing legislators of not doing their job as House Republican leaders cancelled the voting session on the proposed cigarette tax. The tax of $2 a pack would have provided funding to Philadelphia schools. Without that money, Nutter says schools cannot open on time. School officials are asking Governor Corbett to lend the district money in the meantime.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey calls it one of the worst corruption cases he’s seen. Six cops are charged with robbery, kidnapping and extortion in the city’s Narcotics Field Unit. There are allegations the rogue cops dangled victims from balconies and stole more than a half million dollars from suspected drug dealers.

The Phillies are in Washington with the Nationals tonight.
