Carjacking Suspects, Camden Water Tower Burned, Pope Francis Philadelphia Visit

Philadelphia police have suspects in custody in connection with the carjacking that killed three children and injured several others on Friday. Two men carjacked a real estate agent's SUV at gunpoint then crashed it into a crowd including Keisha Williams and her three children - 15, 10 and 7 years old. All three children died. The mother is in critical condition.

UPDATE: One suspect has been identified by his attorney. 19-year-old Jonathan Rosa turned himself in yesterday accompanied by his mother and pastor. Rosa confessed to his role as the passenger in the carjacking. His lawyer said he is torn up by deaths of those children and wants to cooperate to atone for what happened. The other suspect was arrested a few hours later after talking with Rosa.

Severe lightning storms overnight may be the cause of a fire that burned an old wooden water tower in Camden. The charred remains were visible this morning as crews cleared the scene at Copewood and Davis Streets. Investigators are trying to determine if a lightning strike started the fire.

Amid speculation about Pope Francis visiting Philadelphia for the 2015 World Meeting of Families, preliminary plans are being proposed for a site. The Benjamin Franklin Parkway seems to top the list. That’s where 1 million people gathered in 1979 for Pope John Paul II. Other locations being considered include the stadium complex and Fairmount Park.

Sports
The Phillies open a three game series tonight in New York with the Mets.

Weather
Partly cloudy, breezy today. 83 in Center City.
