Stormy Start This Week, Chemical Odor Evacuations, Doe Licenses Now Available

A couple of stormy days ahead starting this afternoon through Tuesday night. Heavy rains in strong to severe thunderstorms can be expected across the area with winds possibly reaching 50 miles per hour today, tonight and tomorrow. The good news is that after Tuesday afternoon, things clear up very nicely with cooler, dry air moving in for the rest of the week.

A chemical odor has forced the evacuation of 150 people in Skippack Township in Montgomery County. The homes are all in the same development at Fairlawn Court and the odor is coming from sump pumps the basement of those homes. Preliminary tests showed high readings of hydrogen cyanide. EPA is working to determine exactly what it is and where it’s coming from. The Red Cross is housing displaced residents.

Hunters are buying doe licenses in Montgomery County today for the 2014-15 hunting season. There will be fewer licenses allocated this year and are sure to go quickly. Each license allows a hunter to take one antlerless deer. If there are licenses still available in August, residents may apply for a second or third permit. 113,000 of the statewide licenses are designated for Southeast PA.

Sports
After the All Star break, the Phillies will get Cliff Lee back on the mound next Monday.

Weather
Scattered thunderstorms today. 92 in Center City.
