With yesterday's storms, trees came down, an underground transformer caught fire and the power went out for thousands of customers across PECO's grid. Over 4,000 people in the city were without power as a result of the transformer fire. PECO has most back on line this afternoon.

Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz helped save the lives of two childhood friends and another man whose fishing boat capsized off the coast of Panama. Ruiz got word the men went missing and did everything he could from 2,000 miles away to help the men he considers brothers. Ruiz funded a search party of planes, boats and helicopters and after 40 hours at sea, Ruiz’s buddies were found and rescued.

A dozen protesters converged on City Hall yesterday to oppose Mayor Nutter’s plan to sell Philadelphia Gas Works to a private company. The activists from Food & Water Watch, and other groups took copies of a petition with 3,000 signatures to City Council offices. The $1.86 billion sale to Connecticut-based UIL Holdings Corp. was signed by Nutter in March and is awaiting Council approval.

Sports
The Phillies have the Colorado Rockies tonight.

Weather
Scattered thunderstorms this afternoon. 73 in Center City.
