Bensalem Black Bear Killed, Pothole Repair, Jersey Shore Crowded Memorial Day

The black bear spotted roaming Bensalem has been killed, euthanized early Monday after being found with a broken leg. The bear was found in the woods behind Nifty Fifties injured after possibly being hit by a car or truck but no one has reported having done so. Game officers say the bear, which had previously been tagged, probably made its way from the Poconos searching for new territory.

Philadelphia's pothole crews are still repairing the damage from the worst winter in recent memory. Sixty eight inches of snow left twice as many potholes as normal. Since January, 35,000 potholes have been filled with many more to go. With workers scheduled to earn overtime every Saturday through July, the hole in the city budget is getting larger too.

Up and down the Jersey Shore, crowds flocked to beaches to enjoy Memorial Day weekend. The water is still chilly but the weather Sunday and Monday made some resorts look and feel more like the Fourth of July. There are still signs of recovery from Superstorm Sandy, but businesses and local officials are optimistic about pent up demand for Jersey Shore vacations, especially after this past winter.
