Gov. Corbett Won't Appeal Ruling; Woman Brings Gun to PHL; Boil Water Warning in Montco

Governor Tom Corbett announced today that he will not appeal the federal court's ruling that lifted the state's ban on same-sex marriage. Corbett issued a statement reaffirming his personal beliefs as a Catholic that marriage should be between a man and a woman, but that his duties as a Governor require him to follow the laws and make judgement to the likelihood of a successful appeal. That said his administration's lawyers have concluded that an appeal is “extremely unlikely” to succeed. Yesterday, U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III declared Pennsylvania's 1996 Defense of Marriage law to be unconstitutional. Couple's across the state have already begun applying for licenses.

A woman at Philadelphia International Airport attempted to board an airplane with a loaded gun and knife in her carryon luggage this morning. It happened around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning at a Philadelphia International Airport Terminal D/E security checkpoint. A Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) officer found a loaded Glock 30 handgun and a credit-card knife in the luggage of 53-year-old Kathyrn Spiropoulos from Ewing, NJ. Spiropoulos was boarding a flight bound for Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta, GA. She does not have a license to carry. She was detained until taken into custody by Philadelphia Police. She facing guns charges. The TSA can also fine $250 to $11,000 for bringing firearms to security.

There is a Boil Water Advisory for schools, residences, and businesses in parts of Montgomery County. The water emergency will only be lifted when officials can get two straight days of clean tests. The problem is being caused by the Schuylkill River running high following by this month's heavy rains. The boil water advisory applies to the Pennsylvania American Water customers in the following communities: East Norriton Township, West Norriton Township, Lower Providence Township, Whitpain Township, Worcester Township, and Whitemarsh Township. Pennsylvania American Water is providing several alternate water sources for customers. Water tankers will be stationed at the following locations and customers are asked to bring their own containers:

Jeffersonville Fire Company at School Lane and Egypt Road

Lower Providence Fire Company at Ridge Pike and East Mount Kirk Avenue

East Norriton Fire Company on Swede Road

East Norriton Fire Station at Germantown Pike and Whitehall Road
Worcester on Reiner Road off Spring Hill Road

Tonight,
