The Vault at Vinyl Revival hosted a night of local Punk artists. The Post Punk sounds of Sonic Youth, The Replacements, and Swans were the dip stick I used to see how these bands were influenced by the greats of this breed of rock. I thought they all were powerful, stripped down in their presentation, animated, and confrontational in their music and lyrics. No Air Supply in this group of performers, a night of upfront and basic punk played by 4 groups of local talent.

First up was Cold Foamers. Generally their music had many mood and pace changes. Asher Dark was on lead, Carmen Kennon on rhythm, Jason Lear on bass and the drums were played by Colin Pezzano. A couple of the tunes like “Musket Ball,” “Tantrum,” and “Dig, Yuppy Scum” gets to the rage and disenchantment voiced in their music. They got the audience pumped and prepared for the night of punk. To catch their music and see where they are performing, follow them on Facebook and band camp.

Mumblr didn't mumble at all they came right at you, clear, loud and very much into the music. The influence of the Pixies, Weezer and Pavement were easy to spot and hear. Scott Stitzer on drums drove the music with his pounding and pace. Lead vocal and guitar were done well by Nick with Ian on guitar and Sean on bass completing the band. I really like “Got It' especially the reprise of 'Got It If You Want It.' The audience got into giving it back to the band numerous times,' Got It If You Want It.' A couple of other cuts were “White Devil” and “J-Pop” both delivered with intensity. I enjoyed the tempo and mood changes sort of like skiing, up, down, sideways and a spill. Follow them on Facebook and Bandcamp, take a look at the album cover of Bang Bang it is thought provoking.

Cousin Brian is Sean on vocals, Shawn on guitar, Jake on drums and Shane on bass. They have many different musical tastes but mentioned Pink Floyd, Meat Puppets and The Smiths as bands they look to for inspiration. They played a few from their album First Two, “Do Stay Over” and “It's On Me.” The lyrics are full of self-doubt, searching for meaning, and blame. The music itself was played with a true punk spirit of abandon. I was sitting in the rear of the venue and saw all the head bobbing and feet tapping, both good signs for a band. They also can be followed on Facebook and you can buy their music on Bandcamp.

Finishing this night of punk was a band that has a name that belies their talent, Nobody Yet. They played mostly songs from their album, Say Your Goodbyes which is available on Bandcamp. “I'm Locked In Here With You, You're Locked In Here With Me” was the lead song, a dark and morbid song with tinges of rejection and rage. Nobody Yet is polished and has a real stage presence. The lead singer Joe Humeas is a powerhouse performer who jumps, twists, dances and pogo all over the stage, seats, floor and walls. He had the crowd into the music and their performance. Luke Gill played a fine and pounding bass while Matt Zavorski killed the drums. They finished with “You'll Have To Kill Me First”, the title describes a sense of tension and escape in the lyrics. The retort of 'It's my revolution not your constitution' is the struggle of wills and opinions the song drives home. Find them on Facebook or http://nobodyyet.bandcamp.com

A fine ending to a punked-out night of local music at The Vault at my favorite record store, Vinyl Revival.
