Jersey Shore Beaches Survived Winter, L and I Feedback Wanted, Students Lambasted at Commencement

As you look ahead to Memorial Day and the Summer at the shore, you'll be happy to hear the Jersey shore beaches are back to pre-Sandy condition. The brutal winter we all endured was not as harsh on the shoreline as is was on us. Restoration held up and replenished beaches are 150 to 200 feet wide.

Philadelphia Licensing and Inspection is the subject of new website that hopes will help gather feedback from residents and businesses about L&I. The newly appointed Special Independent Advisory Commission will looks at a broad scope of L&I activity including structure, management, operations and policies and procedures.

Haverford College graduates got an earful at commencement on Sunday from the replacement speaker, William G. Bowen the former president of Princeton. Bowen lambasted students and faculty who protested the scheduled speaker, Robert J. Birgeneau former chancellor of Cal Berkely causing him to cancel. Bowen said the protestors’ approach was “immature” and “arrogant” calling the incident a “defeat” for Haverford College and its ideals. Bowen received a standing ovation.

Sports
After scoring 20 runs in two games this weekend, the Phillies have today off, travelling to Florida for a series with the Marlins.
