SEPTA Still Working, Heavy Rain Postpones Phillies Opener, New Rules at City Pools

The Transit Workers Union Local 234 has decided to continue to work while they negotiate with SEPTA over new contracts. So the busses, trains and trolleys will continue to roll, at least for now, as SEPTA employees keep on working. One of the sticking points is the length of the new contract. The Union wants 2 years. SEPTA would like a longer term.

Heavy rain is expected all afternoon and tonight across the Philadelphia area. There’s a pretty good chance you’ll hear thunder as well before this system moves out. The Phillies home opener has been rescheduled for tomorrow, and by then the skies will be clear for the ball game.

City pools will enforce stricter rules for the safety of children who do not know how to swim. After the drowning death last year of a South Philadelphia boy in a city pool, all children will be screened. This year, those not able to swim will be restricted to a roped off shallow end of the pool.

Sports
The Phillies home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers has been postponed until tomorrow afternoon at 4:05. Kyle Kendrick is scheduled to start.

Weather
Rain heavy at times. 53 in Center City.
