Woman Dead in Gloucester County; Nutter Delivers Annual Budget; Shots Fired at Kensington Firehouse

A woman was found dead inside her Gloucester County home last night. Investigators have ruled her death a homocide. 50-year-old Margaret Ann DePietro lived alone at The Grande complex in West Deptford. She was found by a family member at around 11pm after DePietro did not answer the phone earlier in the evening. The medical examiner conducted the autopsy today and determined the cause of death to be multiple stab wounds. The investigation is on going, but no arrests have been made. Authorities do not believe this was a random act.

Mayor Michael Nutter delivered his annual budget address to City Council this morning. Unlike last year's address where union protesters took over council chambers and forced Nutter to deliver his address in his office, this year's speech was done protester-free in a quiet chamber. The total budget proposed is for $4 billion. There were rallies outside of City Hall on Thursday morning by members of AFSCME District Council 33 and Utility Workers of America Local 686. DC 33 has not had a contract with the city and have been in negotiations since 2009. Utility workers were voicing their opposition to the proposed sale of PGW to Hartford-based UIL Holdings.

Police are investigating after gunshots were fired and bullets entered a Philadelphia firehouse earlier this afternoon. The incident happened around 1:30 pm at the Philadelphia Fire Department station at Hart Lane and Boudinot Street in Kensington. Firefighters were eating lunch in the kitchen area of Engine 25 when bullets and glass came flying through the station. Two bullets had been fired through a firehouse window and lodged in a wall inside. Six bullet casings were found outside near the building. No one was injured in the shooting. There have not been any arrests but this remains under investigation.

Tonight,
Partly Cloudy, temperatures in the upper 20's this evening in Center City
