Mayor Nutter announced today that he has reached a deal with a Connecticut company to sell the Philadelphia Gas Works for over $1 ½ billion. The company, UIL Holdings Corp., based in New Haven would buy the public works for $1.86 billion. Some terms of the deal include holding the base rate for three years, continuing low-income assistance programs, and guaranteeing current PGW workers jobs and pensions. Proceeds from this sale would also help shore up the pension fund for city worker's pension fund. The Philadelphia City Council and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission must approve the sale.

The man known as the Swiss Cheese Pervert is now facing more charges. 42-year-old Christopher Pagano of Norristown was initially arrested and charged back in January. He was accused of driving up to women on the street and offering them money to put swiss cheese on his genitals and perform lewd acts. Pagano turned himself back into Philadelphia police over the weekend after a new victim came forward. He is now charged with Stalking, Indecent Exposure, Harassment, and Open Lewdness for harassing four women. He posted bail again. His next court date is April 1st.

Another day of snow and another snow day for the Philadelphia School District. Today's day off is the seventh missed day of classes due to winter weather this year for students. Of course that means hassle for parents who have to deal with having kids stay at home, especially if they would normally have to go to work. However, the school district to trying to figure out how to make up all these days to stay compliant with the law. One day is built into the schedule and three more have already been taken off Spring Break in April. That leaves 3 they need to reschedule. The district could petition the state to waive the 180 day requirement. The law does have an hours-of-instruction clause, which is 990 hours for middle and high school, and 900 hours for elementary.

Tonight
