Winter Storm Emergency, Closures, Bans; Phillies Spring Training; Teen Girl Stabs Teen Boy's Heart

In anticipation of the major winter storm bearing down on our area, a snow emergency will go into effect as of 8pm on Wednesday night in the City of Philadelphia. This means that if you have parked your vehicle along those designated routes you must move your car or it will be towed. If your car has been towed, call 215-686-SNOW for its location. The PPA will offer parking at it's downtown garages at a special rate of $5 through the emergency. Similar snow emergencies have also been declared in most area townships. The Philadelphia public schools and archdiocesan schools will be closed Thursday, and non essential city employees will not need to report. The PA turnpike will implement a ban on all empty and double tractor trailers at 11pm, and may reduce speeds to 45 mph.

Snow, What snow? Spring training has started for the Philadelphia Phillies as pitchers and catchers reported for camp down in Clearwater. It was announced that the team has agreed to a 1-year, $16 million contract with free agent A.J. Burnett. 37-year-old Burnett went 10-11 with a 3.30 ERA in 30 starts for the Pirates last year. Some disconcerting news from Cole Hamels. The ace disclosed that he had been dealing with shoulder tendinitis during the offseason and is behind his throwing program. Don't expect him to be ready on opening day, maybe a little later.

Last night in the Point Breeze section of South Philadelphia, an argument escalated and left a teenage boy stabbed close to his heart by a teenage girl. Philadelphia Police discovered the boy around 8 p.m. near 22nd and Moore Streets. He was actually stabbed a few blocks away and walked to that location before he collapsed. The boy was taken to Children's Hospital in critical condition to have emergency heart surgery. Police were able to track down the teen girl and place her under arrest. The two teens did know each other.
