Warm Sunday, Snow Monday; South Philly Gas Leak; Christie Reponds to Wildstein

The weather roller coaster will be in full effect this upcoming week with three chances for storms and a mixed bag of precipitation and temperatures. No matter what Punxsutawney Phil says tomorrow, we'll will see Spring on Sunday and Winter on Monday for sure. High temperatures tomorrow for the Super Bowl will be around 50 degrees. A Winter Storm Watch in now in effect for our area from 6am-4pm Monday. The temperatures will drop overnight into Monday into the low 30's where we will see yet another round of snow. It should start before rush hour and last to mid-afternoon. The Philadelphia area could see 3-6” of heavy, wet snow. The next chance comes Tues-Wed, for a snow-ice-rain event, and finally a third storm on Saturday. Maybe Phil will have good news Sunday morning.

Over two dozen homes had to be evacuated this evening in South Philadelphia following a gas main break. It happened around 5:15 p.m. along the 2200 block of South 8th Street near Jackson Street. Fire Department and Philadelphia Gas Works crew were called after the report of a strong gas odor. Residents of 28 homes were evacuated, effecting around 50 people. The source of that gas leak has been found and crews are now working to fix it. Residents in odd-numbered homes were allowed to return at 8 p.m. Residents of the even-numbered houses were able to go back inside around 9:45 p.m.

Gov. Chris Christie responded to David Wildstein's letter yesterday that claimed that evidence exists that Christie had knowledge of the bridge closures back in September. Christie sent an email today attacking Wildstein saying,”Bottom line - David Wildstein will do and say anything to save David Wildstein." He also calls Wildstein a “tumultuous” character. The email reiterates the governor's stance that he had no knowledge of the traffic jam or the political motives until later.
