A CSX freight train derailed this morning on the Schuylkill Arsenal Bridge. Some of the six derailed cars contained crude oil causing concern over spills onto roadways and the river below. Coast Guard reports from a river crew and inspectors at the derail site reported no leaks. The investigation into the cause of the derailment is underway.

Hoboken’s mayor claims representatives of Governor Christie’s office threatened to withhold recovery funds from Superstorm Sandy unless she expedited a development project. Democratic Mayor Dawn Zimmer says she told her story to the U.S. attorney for hours yesterday and provided her journal and other documents. Christie’s office calls Zimmer’s claims “categorically false.”

Philadelphia is bracing for another polar plunge this week. Starting tomorrow when a winter storm brings 3 to 6 inches of snow, temperatures will plummet for several days with lows in the single digits and highs only in the teens. High temperatures won’t get out of the 20’s until the weekend.
