Some of the coldest temperatures in decades were recorded in the last 36 hours from the Philadelphia region to the Jersey Shore. On Long Beach Island Harvey Cedars Police provided photos of a frozen Barnegat Bay. The scene with frozen docks and an ice covered bay looks more like Alaska than New Jersey.

The Philadelphia School District has received 20 offers to buy empty buildings listed for sale on its website. The sale is part of an effort to fill the budget gap. The school district is trying to sell its entire portfolio of 28 schools and will continue to review proposals in hand. The city hopes sales will total at least $61 million.

Today is the 50th anniversary of President Lyndon Johnson’s speech declaring “War on Poverty.” A few dozen unemployed Philadelphians will join a demonstration at the U.S. Capitol in Washington today to rally for legislation to restore emergency jobless benefits that expired at the first of the year.

Sports
Tonight St. Joe’s visits #19 UMass. Eighth ranked Villanova is at Seton Hall. Drexel is at William and Mary.

Weather
