Eagles in Playoff with Cowboys, Pickpocket Season, Temple President Defends Cuts

The Eagles put on a show last night on both sides of the ball in a lopsided 54-11 victory over a good team, the Chicago Bears. Next up, Dallas. The winner of that game next Sunday night will win the NFC East and advance to the playoffs. The loser is eliminated from playoffs. Coach Chip Kelly looks at the Dallas game as the Eagles first playoff game.

Tis the season for shopping and carrying extra money around. Unfortunately, that also makes it prime season for pick pockets and sneak thieves. Philadelphia police have reported 162 pickpocket offenses in Center City this year. Most happen in busy coffeehouses and restaurants. Prime targets seem to be women who are engaged in conversation or on the phone. Thieves are swiping wallets or sometimes the entire purse unnoticed.

The President of Temple University, Neil D. Theobald defended the case for cutting seven varsity sports programs saying Title IX issues were a factor. Only 42% of scholarships are going to female athletes, but the school has more female students than male. In a letter to the Inquirer, the president says many of Temple’s athletic facilities are inadequate. Theobald dismisses the notion that the football program sucks up too much scholarship money.
