Ads on School Busses Considered, LOOP Program Tax Relief

Philadelphia is considering raising money by selling advertising on school busses and other school property. City Council is in favor of the motion as a step toward long-term sustainability for the financially strapped Philadelphia school system. Critics say that children are already exposed to too much advertising.

Homeowners in Philadelphia are being offered some property tax relief thanks to a program called “LOOP.” The Longtime Owner Occupants Program qualifies residents in their homes 10 years or more for a revised assessment plan and tax abatements on top of the $30,000 Homestead exemption approved earlier this year.

Sports
Tonight the Flyers are in Detroit. City Six hoops: Penn visits #14 Villanova. St. Joes is at Temple. Drexel hosts Cleveland State. LaSalle has Hartford.

Weather
Partly cloudy today. 55 in Center City.
