The Chester County District Attorney's Office announced that police have seized 40 pounds of marijuana laced candy from an on-campus apartment at West Chester University. Chief Deputy District Attorney Patrick Carmody stated, "With Halloween just around the corner, the last thing we want to see is drug-laced candy hitting the streets. This was good work by the police to pick off this load of drugs before it went to college students or kids." Officers first made contact with a group of students in a parked car when they smelled marijuana coming from inside. Investigating the students further led officials back to their apartment at 842 South New Street where the found the THC candy packaged in plastic bags for distribution. Carmody believes this is an isolated incident and all the treats were confiscated. Parents should always check their kids' candy on Halloween and discard anything suspicious.

Penn State announced that it has reached out-of-court settlements with 26 young men stemming from claims of child sexual abuse by former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. The payments total $59.7 million. 23 of those settlements are fully signed, while 3 are agreed to in principle. The money will not be paid from student tuition, taxpayer funds, or donations, rather various liability insurance policies will cover the settlements. Sandusky was convicted in June 2012 on 45 counts of abusing 10 boys. He is serving a 30-60 year sentence, but is planning to appeal. Penn State received 32 claims of abuse. They have either not made a determination on the remaining six claims or have dismissed them for lacking merit.

Fourteen men from across NJ have been arrested for distributing child pornography online, including child rape videos. Acting state Attorney General John Hoffman said each of the suspects used file-sharing software to make the porn available for others to download from shared folders. They range in age from 24 to 66 years old. This is the first child porn sweep since New Jersey's stricter child pornography law was signed by Gov. Christie on August 14th. The arrests took place over the past three weeks starting September 30th and involved members from state, county and local law enforcement agencies.
