Heavy Noreaster, Nurse Charged with Assisted Homicide, Long Gun Background Checks

Heavy rain off and on with strong winds are pounding Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore today. This nor-easter is causing coastal flood warnings and tricky travel conditions around Philadelphia today. The National Weather Service is saying this slow moving storm may give us intermittent rain all weekend before clearing out on Monday.

A Philadelphia nurse is charged with assisted homicide in the death of her 93 year old father. Yesterday at a hearing in Schuylkill County, Barbara Mancini was accused of pressuring the hospital to give her dad, Joseph Yourshaw an extra dose of morphine. Yourshaw was suffering from kidney failure, end-stage diabetes, heart disease and the effects of a stroke. He died four days after he drank the extra morphine.

Gun safety advocates held a news conference at Abington Memorial Hospital yesterday. Democrats from Bucks and Montgomery Counties are trying to gain support for a bill that would require background checks for the sale of all long guns – rifles, shotguns and assault weapons. Unlike handguns, long guns can be purchased without a background check.
