Teenage Heroin Deaths, Demolition Regs, Operation Safe Surf Talk Too Strong For Kids

There have been two teenage deaths related to the drug, heroin within a week and police in Runnemede are seeing kids starting younger and younger on this dangerous, powerful drug. Chief of Police Paul Dailey sees kids starting in 9th, 10th and 11th grade. In the first week and a half of school at Triton High, a 16 and 18 year old died and a third student overdosed but survived.

Regulations governing demolition of buildings in Philadelphia will be getting stricter. A special City Council panel hopes to avoid a repeat of the tragic collapse earlier this summer. Council Majority Leader Curtis Jones Jr. led the panel and pointed to the differences between demolitions run by the city and those run by private contractors.

A presentation to 9 and 10 year olds at Merion Elementary School yesterday included material that may not have been age appropriate. Child pornography, al-Queda and serial killers were part of a talk by a representative of the State Attorney General’s office on Operation Safe Surf. Concerned teachers and parents had the presenter modify the presentation before the next group of 6, 7 and 8 year olds.
