The NCAA announced today that it will gradually restore football scholarships to Penn State after they were taken away following the Jerry Sandusky scandal. Five scholarships will be restored next year and more will phased in each year until they are back to normal in 2016-17. The NCAA is acting on a report by former Sen. George Mitchell that shows Penn State's significant efforts and changes and commitment to improve. Penn State's sanctions also include a $60 million fine and a 5 year ban on post season play, both of which are still in place.

The University of Delaware Rugby Club has been banned from playing or practicing at university facilities until 2018 following a party that led to a riot on the streets in Newark, DE earlier this month. The party was hosted at a house on the 400 block of South College Avenue known as the Rugby House because members of the club traditionally live there. It was staged by a company called “I'm Schmacked” that videos college parties and posts them on the internet. The party became out of control leading hundreds of students to stream into the street causing vandalism and damage to cars. Two two students who live at the house were arrested, as was an I'm Schmacked photographer. 11 more students are sought by police. The Rugby Club plans to appeal on grounds that only two of the 80 member club were involved.

The Yuengling family is planning on getting back into the dairy business, specifically producing products of the frozen kind. David Yuengling (second cousin of the brewer Dick Yuengling) is president of the new Yuengling Ice Cream company. It was first started by their common great-grandfather Frank D. Yuengling in the 20's to help supplement income during Prohibition. It was closed in 1985. The new company will have flavors such as vanilla, espresso, chocolate chip, chocolate fudge brownie, chocolate marshmallow, root beer float, mint chocolate chip, and vanilla fudge chunk with pretzels and a “black and tan” made of chocolate and caramel. It'll be made in Pennsylvania using local milk and cream. Look for a quart of the confections in supermarkets in March.

Clear Skies temps in the 60's this evening in Center City.
