Schools Open in Philadelphia, Eagles Begin New Era Tonight, Woman Killed By School Bus

It's the first day of school for about 134,000 Philadelphia public school students today. The teachers are teaching with larger class sizes and still negotiating over the 13 percent giveback in salary the city has requested. The school budget crisis means up to 40 students per class and fewer administrative personnel, guidance counselors, security and nurses.

The Philadelphia Eagles start more than a new season tonight. It’s the start of a new era. The Chip Kelly era begins as the Eagles visit the Washington Redskins on the national stage that is Monday night football. There is curiosity around the country about whether Chip Kelly’s high speed style of college football he made so successful at Oregon, will translate to the NFL.

Police in lower Pottsgrove are looking for a school bus that likely struck and killed an elderly woman there this morning. It happened about 7:30 this morning in the westbound lane of Mervine Street near the intersection of North Charlotte Street. Investigators believe the driver of the school bus may have not realized the woman was hit.

Sports
The Eagles open tonight with the Washington Redskins at 7:10 on 6ABC and ESPN.

Weather
Mostly Sunny today. 76 in Center City.
