New SEPTA Fare System, Woman Charged with Kidnapping, More Dead Dolphins at the Jersey Shore

SEPTA is getting ready to roll out its new high tech fare collection system that uses scan cards and a Validator. Riders will wave their card at what looks like a tablet or iPad and zip through to their train, trolley or bus. The idea is to speed things up and eliminate delays caused by riders who fumble with cash.

Philadelphia police arrested a woman after finding what appeared to be a disabled person tied to a bed in her home. The victim was described as extremely thin with sores on her body. Forty-six year old Regina Bennett is charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping for ransom and neglect of care.

More dead dolphins have washed up on the beaches of New Jersey bringing the number to 59 this summer. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center is attributing the deaths to viral pneumonia. The cause is still unknown but the federal government and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are investigating this “unusual mortality event.”

The Phillies host the Colorado Rockies tonight.
