The body of 18 year old Sarah Townsend of Florence, NJ has been recovered from the bottom of Sherman Pond in Burlington Township. Despite the early evidence, those closest to Sarah can't believe she would harm herself. The medical examiner has determined the official cause of death as drowning. There were no signs of trauma or a struggle. Foul play has been ruled out. Toxicology testing is being conducted with results expected soon.

Sarah Townsend's boyfriend found her car next to the pond last Monday, 5/9. The engine was running, her cell phone was inside. Police have reported finding a hand written note that said "I'm sorry."

Her father spoke to the media on Friday. "She's up there in the castle," said Roy Townsend. "She's not down here slumming it with me, so that's good. She's got her wings, and I love her and thank you Jesus."

After her disappearance last Monday, there was an intense search. "You brought together a lot of love, and you did it all for Sarah and I appreciate it. Sarah just found another place to go, and it's okay everything is alright," said Roy.

Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood performed the autopsy Friday and concluded there were no signs of trauma to her body and no indications of foul play.

Officers had to tackle Townsend's distraught boyfriend at the pond as her body was recovered. He had run past the police perimeter.

"We still have to treat this as a crime scene and they had no idea who was coming up so, unfortunately, they had to take him to the ground," said Lt. Bruce Painter of the Burlington Township Police.

Prior to the recovery of Townsend's body, her mother commented, "Nothing just sounds right, nothing rings true about Sarah," said Laurie Townsend. "It just doesn't make any sense."

On Friday morning, before her body was discovered, her parents could not imagine the Allentown High School senior would harm herself.

"Sarah was too smart, she was too kind, she has too much going on. She has too big of a heart to do anything like that," said her father, Roy Townsend.
