NJ Stay-Right Law Penalties Increased; Three Children removed from 'deplorable' conditions

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed into a law a bill that raises penalties for motorists who violate the state's keep-right law. The new fines have increased from $50 and $200 to between $100 and $300. The state is trying to crackdown on those who hog the left lane. Motorists are required to stay in the right lane unless passing slower traffic. The bill's sponsors said that staying in the left creates a dangerous situation.

A couple is facing charges after three young children were removed from a row home in the Logan section this morning described as “deplorable”. Police went to the house on the 4800 block of North Ninth Street at 9am to serve an arrest warrant for a woman living there. They discovered the three girls, ages one, three, and four, clothed only in diapers and covered in filth. The home did not have any beds or cribs, lacked a working toilet, and appeared to have human waste scattered about. The 25-year-old father, Soyika Eldemire, and the 24-year-old mother, Lakeeshanaye Overton, are both charged with three counts each of Endangering Welfare of a Child and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
