Phillies LHP Antonio Bastardo reportedly accepting a 50-game suspension

According to many reports, Philadelphia Phillies left-hand relief pitcher Antonio Bastardo has accepted a 50-game suspension for a violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Agreement. He is one of a number players who are taking the discipline from MLB today in connection with the Miami-area firm Biogensis of America, anti-aging clinic. They are accused of receiving performance-enhancing substances from Biogenesis.

Bastardo's absence will only hurt an otherwise dismal bullpen situation for this crumbing season. Although he's had a few shaky appearances, he's otherwise gotten the job done. Bastardo is 3-2 with a 2.32 ERA in 48 appearances this season.

An official announcement expected later.

UPDATE: Bastardo has accepted 50 game suspension with other players. A-Rod suspended through 2014 end of season.

Others include:
2013 All-Stars Nelson Cruz of Texas, Jhonny Peralta of Detroit and Everth Cabrera of San Diego.;
Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli and outfielder Fernando Martinez;
Seattle catcher Jesus Montero;
New York Mets infielder Jordany Valdespin and outfielder Cesar Puello;
Houston pitcher Sergio Escalona;
San Diego pitcher Fautino De Los Santos;
and free agent pitcher Jordan Norberto.
Ryan Braun of Milwaukee accepted a 65 game suspension on July 22.
Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez will be facing a much longer suspension and plans to appeal, but can play during appeal.
