Boy Missing in Pennypack Creek; Darren Daulton Surgery "went well"; UPenn Hospital Says No to Smoke

A 13-year-old boy is missing and another rescued after going into the Pennypack Creek in Northeast Philadelphia this afternoon. It happened near Winchester and the Roosevelt Boulevard. A group of four boys were playing near the creek, which is running fast due to record rainfall. Two of the boys were able to get out on their own, but an 11-year-old needed to be rescued. His 13-year-old brother never surfaced. Authorities are now treating this as a recovery more than a rescue.

UPDATE: The search has been called off and will continue on Tuesday. The water was too rough for the divers to continue.

Doctor's are saying that surgery for Darren Daulton “went well”. Last week the former catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies was diagnosed with two brain tumors. He had surgery today to remove those at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. After the surgery today he was alert and able to talk with family members in the recovery room. The entire surgery took around 7 hours to complete.

As of July 1st, two major hospitals will have a controversial new hiring practice. If you are a smoker don't think about applying for a job at either Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Penn will trust employees on their word but CHOP will test applicants. Also, if you have family members who smoke that will be listed on your insurance, they will have to either join the smoking cessation programs or pay higher premiums. According to Penn the ban is part of the system’s “efforts to improve the overall health of our workforce while reducing health care benefit costs.”
