A man was shot and killed this morning in the Fairhill section of Philadelphia. Apparently the man was walking to work about 5 am on the 2800 block of Lawrence Street. Chief Inspector Scott Small says at least eight shots were fired from close range from a semi-automatic handgun. Police are questioning witnesses and reviewing surveillance camera video to lead them to the shooter.

Four union members started a hunger strike yesterday in front of Governor Corbett’s Philadelphia field office. Two of the hunger strikers are also parents of students in the Philadelphia School system. They are protesting the school funding cuts on the line at the June 30th budget deadline.

The woman who survived 13 hours after being trapped in the rubble of the Salvation Army has lost both of her legs. Mariya Piekan of Hunting Park is in serious condition after surgery Monday had both legs removed at the pelvis because of injuries she suffered when she was crushed by debris after a wall collapsed on the Thrift Store on June 5th.

Sports
The Phillies have Cliff Lee on the mound tonight with the Washington Nationals.

Weather
Warm. Humid. Thunderstorms around the area. 80 in Center City.
