Customs and Border Protection arrested a woman at Philadelphia International Airport for smuggling cocaine inside her shoes. 25-year-old Iveliza Tuhanna Perez arrived on a flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica yesterday at 4:30. While officers were performing a baggage examination they noticed that three pairs of cork wedge high heels were abnormally heavy and x-rays showed anomalies in the heels. They discovered 4 lbs of cocaine worth about $140,000. CBP officials noted that smugglers attempt all types of creative methods to carry illicit narcotics into the United States. Perez was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute and Knowing and Intentional Possession.

A large black bear that has been seen wandering in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey suburbs the past few weeks was finally tracked down early Thursday morning in Delran, Burlington County, NJ. It was spotted about 25 feet up a tree. New Jersey Fish & Wildlife Division officers were able to tranquilize the bear which then fell from the tree. This 3-year-old, 300 pound bear has been spotted before, last year near Vineland. Officials in New Jersey believe this is the bear recently seen the area, as do Pennsylvania officials, where reports of a bear have been made in Lower Bucks County. The bear was relocated to Brendan T. Byrne State Forest in the Pine Barrens.

"Kai, the hatchet-wielding hitchhiker" says he's not guilty of a murder charge. Caleb McGillivary is now being held in New Jersey after waiving extradition from Philadelphia. McGillvary, 24, is charged with the beating death of 73-year-old lawyer Joseph Galfy. Galfy was found dead in his Clark, North Jersey home on May 13th. The two men met up in New York City the night before. McGillvary was arrested on May 16th in Philadelphia after a manhunt tracked him near the Chinatown bus terminal. McGillvary gained internet fame when he was interviewed following an encounter in Fresno, CA in which he stopped a road rage incident with a hatchet.

Tonight, Clear skies, very warm holding in the mid 80s this evening in Center City.
