Osama Bin Laden is Dead; Where were you when you heard?

It is always the question that we are asked about an important date or event. Where were you, what were you doing, how did you find out etc. ? Today, President Obama told us that a team of special forces conducted a raid on a compound in Pakistan and that Osama Bin Laden had been killed during the fire fight. This is the man we have been hunting for 10 years, one who is responsible for the Sept. 11th attacks and numerous others previous, head of the al Qaeda terrorist group. It seems so easy in the end, but this was just the precision end to a long process. Regardless, it is a chance to come together as a nation and a world as a whole, and to celebrate all that we do have and all that has been sacrificed for our freedoms.

As for myself, I had the unique experience of finding out the news while at the Phillies game vs the Mets at Citizen Bank Park. There was no announcement or anything, I heard from my dad who got a text message at around 10:55 pm. I tried to look it up on my phone, but it was too early even for news sites to have anything up. After a few minutes, the news spread enough through the crowd that chants of U-S-A boiled up until the entire stadium was cheering and chanting. I'm sure that they were loud enough to be heard on the national ESPN broadcast of the game. That must have been cool for those watching the game who just heard the news at home too, as this was before President Obama had made the official announcement. It was a surreal moment to have shared with the 45,000 others in the stands amidst a baseball game between Philadelphia and New York. As we chanted, the game played on, as it should have.

Where were you when you heard the news? Tell your story below.
