Christie Urges Fed Support for Tornado Victims, New Skate Park, Council Bill to Delay New Taxes

More than 13,000 homes, businesses and schools were destroyed by the massive tornado that ripped through Moore, Oklahoma. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is urging congressional leaders to move swiftly in approving federal aid for victims there. New Jersey’s victims of Superstorm Sandy were forced to wait while congressional leaders haggled, but Christie feels two wrongs do not make it right.

Philadelphia cut the ribbon on a new skate park yesterday. Paine’s Park is near the Art Museum off Eakin’s Oval and has been 10 years in the making since skateboarders were banned from Love Park. The 10,000 square foot skate park is designed like a real street plaza and there is hope that similar parks can open up around the city.

Philadelphia City Council has given preliminary approval to a bill that would hit the pause button on next year’s property tax bill for those still in the process of an appeal. Mayor Michael Nutter is objecting to delaying the new tax bills due out in February, fearing it will lead to frivolous appeals just to delay their tax payment.

The Phillies have tonight off and start with the Nationals in Washington tomorrow.
