Missing Egg Harbor Township, NJ boater; Man arrested with gun at Atlantic City International Airport

David McAuliffe, 32, has been missing since Tuesday. He is the lead captain of a 45-foot Sea Tow boat, the Cape Hatteras. McAuliffe left the Farley State Marina in Atlantic City on Tuesday morning and the Coast Guard received a call three hours later. They have searched vigorously near the Great Egg Harbor Inlet and kept going at the south end of Ocean City. Since today, the Coast Guard stopped the search, and are now conducting a vessel-recovery operation.

UPDATE: The Coast Guard has suspended it's search for missing boater David McAuliffe. Crews searched more than 400 square miles, for a total of 65 hours. “We are deeply saddened by the difficult decision to suspend our search efforts for Captain David McAuliffe,” said Captain Kathy Moore, the commander of Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in a statement released Wednesday. “This is a man who made a career of helping others on the water, often placing himself in harm’s way to do so. Our deepest sympathies are with his family, friends and fellow mariners.”

At the Atlantic City International Airport on Tuesday night, a man from Pennsylvania was arrested after going through an X-ray machine, his carry-on bag contained a loaded gun. The New Jersey Police confiscated the .25 caliber handgun for a state weapons charge. Weapons and guns are not permitted in a carry-on. If caught with these items, travelers can be fined up to $11,000.
