Rutgers has fired their basketball coach. After the ESPN show, Outside the Lines featured video of Rutgers Men's Basketball coach, Mike Rice berating players during practices, the school has decided to fire him. The video was revealed to the school in November showing Rice throwing balls at players, grabbing them and using racial and gay slurs. At the time, Rutgers officials suspended Rice for three games, fined him $50,000 and sent him to anger management. Now it has decided, that was not enough.

The ESPN show aired on Tuesday, April 2nd. Afterward, criticism of Rice's behavior came from the state and national level including players, media, the public-at-large, NJ Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Athletic director Tim Pernetti received a copy of the tape back in November and the disciplinary actions and an attempt at rehabilitation was decided at that time. He now admits that was not the right course of action. A national search for a new coach will begin. Rice was the head coach of the Men's Basketball team for three seasons. Rutgers is a state university.
