Horsham Air Guard to Fly Drones; PECO and Earth Hour; Cherry Hill PCP Dealer Convicted

The Horsham Air Guard station has received a new mission, as a ground command center for military drones, and they are 'excited' to take on their new 'enduring mission'. In 2005, the Air Force announced it would phase out the the A-10 planes flying out of the base as part of the decommissioning of the Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base. The name changed on September 15 2011 when the U.S. Navy left and the base was closed. It was handed over to the Pennsylvania Air National Guard which maintains offices and houses National Guard soldiers. The remaining land has been handed over to Horsham Township for redevelopment. The new command center for the drone mission will take between $7 million and $10 million and up to 2 years to establish including modifying facilities and training pilots. It will generate about 250 jobs, 75 of them expected to be full-time. No drones planes will actually be flown from the base as they are launched elsewhere, only the pilots controlling the planes on missions around the world would be housed at the base. Col. Howard Eissler, commander for the 111th Fighter Wing, was asked if the base could become a target and he said no.

Earth Hour is today to 8:30 – 9:30pm. It was created by the World Wildlife Fund to raise awareness about climate change. The idea is simple, just turn your lights off for one hour to save electricity. PECO is getting involved and will be turning off the famous lighted scroll atop their Center City building. Other landmarks around the world will also be going dark including the Las Vegas strip and the Eiffel Tower. It should serve as a reminder to turn off non-essential lights or electronics when not in use. Maybe just turn off the tv or computer and save power for one hour. Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia in 2007, now thousands of cities are participating.

A Cherry Hill man has been convicted to 13 years in prison for dealing PCP. He is described as one of the areas top distributors of the dangerous hallucinogenic drug. Lovell Venable, 35, was a major supplier of the drug to criminal networks that also sold cocaine and heroin on the streets of Camden. He was arrested in a multi-agency investigation into a gang known as the G-Shine Bloods of which Venable was a leader. He plead guilty to first-degree racketeering and will not be eligible for parole for 11 years. PCP played a role in a few murders in Camden last year. One of which a man killed two boys while high on the drug, and another in which a mother beheaded her son.
