Check your lottery tickets. Three winners were sold in the Philadelphia area. On Friday, Mega Millions produced two winners for $250,000 each – one in Philadelphia and one in Delaware County. Saturday a Cash 5 ticket sold in Chester County hit for $225,000. The winning tickets were sold at a Pathmark in Northeast Philly, Westmont Beverage in Collingdale and a Giant in Frazer.

Pennsylvania’s liquor privatization plan cleared its first big hurdle today. The House Liquor Control Committee voted to approve an amended version of Governor Corbett’s plan to turn the state’s 600 wine and hard liquor stores over to the private sector. The bill now moves to the House for a vote and could be acted on later this week.

The family of 70 year old Kathleen McEwan is suing the caregiver for her murder at the hands of a violent, unstable roommate on June 10th. The non-profit social service agency, Resources for Human Development is being blamed for negligence by putting McEwan in a room with Geraldine Cherry who apparently killed McEwan by shoving trash down her throat, including a piece of rope, candy wrapper, Chex Party Mix, a lotion bottle and a piece of a diaper. The caregiver is also being charged with attempting to cover up the murder and hiding the incident from the family by waiting until after McEwan was buried before notifying the family of her death.

Weather
Mix of snow and rain across the area. 37 in Center City.
