Setback for Andrew Bynum, William Hite Walks the Walk, Police Academy Adds 22 to Philadelphia Force

Now it appears we won't see Andrew Bynum in any live game action for the 76ers any time soon. Another setback for the Sixers big off-season acquisition. Bynum played in a 5 on 5 scrimmage in practice last week and today there is word that his injured knee is still swollen from the workout. Today after practice Bynum said he is not sure if he will be able to play at all since the season is getting so late.

Philadelphia School Superintendent William Hite took a walk today. Along with School Reform Commission member, Sylvia Simms, he walked the path young schoolchildren will have to take if Pierce Elementary closes. The walk was 1.2 miles from 19th and Lehigh to the Rhodes School at 29th and Lehigh through dangerous intersections and drug sections. Hite admitted it was a significant distance through hazardous places.

The Philadelphia Police force got 22 more officers from the Academy today. Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey plans to start them with challenging assignments - foot patrol in “challenged neighborhoods in North and West Philadelphia.” With the addition of 75 more cadets scheduled to graduate in a few months, the Philadelphia Police force will grow to 6,400 by summertime.

Weather
Clear skies tonight. 30 in Center City.
