Two people have been arrested and an elderly couple have been hospitalized after a road rage incident and car accident this afternoon. At around 4:30 p.m. at 54th and City Avenue in the Wynnefield section of the city, a blue Buick Park Avenue rear-ended a white Nissan Maxima and kept driving. The Nissan then gave pursuit to the Buick reaching high speeds. On the 2200 block of Bryn Mawr Avenue the Buick slammed into a gold Honda Accord driven by a 90-year-old man with his 82-year-old wife in the passenger seat. They sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. The man remains in critical condition with broken ribs and a chest injury and the woman is in stable condition. It didn't stop there. After the second crash, the 29-year-old driver of the Nissan got out and chased the 25-year-old driver of the Buick with a knife to a nearby Produce Junction. They were both soon arrested. The driver of the Buick will be charged with leaving the scene of a crash and the head-on wreck while the driver of the Nissan will be charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and related charges.

37-year-old Morgan Mengel has plead guilty to the June 2010 murder of her husband Kevin Mengel. The Chester County woman was set to go to trial in the 'love triangle murder' case in which she convinced her young lover to kill her husband. The planning and murder played out in text logs between Mengel and her 21-year-old lover, Stephen Shappell, an employee of the couple’s landscaping business. Shappell was caught and confessed to the crime. He faces a sentence of 40 to 80 years in prison.

You know how you are cruising down the Garden State Parkway going down the shore to the southernmost points when the highway all of a sudden has traffic lights? What's up with that? Well, when it was first built it was only supposed to go to Atlantic County, and Cape May County was an afterthought. When the money ran low full interchanges couldn't be built toward the end of the 172-mile toll road. Traffic lights have been at the intersections at Shell Bay Avenue, Stone Harbor Boulevard, and Crest Haven Road since the toll road opened in 1954. On Monday, ground was broken for a $110 million project that will take two years to complete. Bridges, ramps, and overpasses will be built to create interchanges at each of the three intersections. This should alleviate traffic and safety concerns along the three mile stretch.
