NJ Gov Christie Blasts Congress Over Sandy Delay, Religious Suit Over Obamacare, 75 Watt Bulbs Out

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said last night's Congressional hearing was "disgusting to watch." That's because the $60 billion in disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Sandy got put on hold in favor of the 11 hour debate about the "fiscal cliff." Late this afternoon word came that Speaker John Boehner scheduled a vote on $9 billion in flood insurance for Friday and the remainder by the 15th.

A Lancaster County Company is challenging the contraceptive requirement in Obamacare and a federal judge in Philadelphia is cooperating, giving them a 10 day reprieve from fines. The cabinet maker, Conestoga Wood Specialties, owned by Norman Hahn and his sons are Mennonite Christians. They believe it would be a sin to pay for contraceptives for female employees. The Hahns have filed a lawsuit to block the fine of $95,000 per day that the Affordable Care Act requires they pay.

Happy New Year! It’s time to get rid of your 75 watt light bulbs. A new law took effect prohibiting manufacture of traditional 75 watt incandescent bulbs. Last year we said goodbye to 100 watt bulbs. Consumer Affairs officials remind us that old incandescent light bulbs waste energy and heat. LED’s, halogens and fluorescents last longer and are cheaper in the long haul.

Weather
Partly cloudy. 24 in Center City.
