Fiscal Cliff Rescue, Program Cut Deadline Postponed, PA Gov. Corbett Sues NCAA

Congress worked late into the night and resolved a piece of the fiscal cliff rescue line. 99% of us will not see our income taxes rise today. Congress agreed to limit tax increases to those earning over $400,000. Still to be resolved are program cuts, which Congress agreed to put off for a couple months.

Both Pennsylvania U.S. Senators voted in favor of the Fiscal Cliff deal, reluctantly. Republican Senator Toomey wanted no tax increase for any Americans, but when it became clear that was not going to happen, his priority became protecting the 99%. Democratic Senator Casey says the deal is not perfect but is happy that benefits will be extended to those collecting unemployment.

Governor Corbett will sue the NCAA over sanctions imposed on Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. The sanctions included $60 million in fines that would be used nationally to finance child abuse prevention grants. Corbett believes the money should be used in Pennsylvania.
