Philadelphia Reassessment Data, Senator Casey Pivots on Gun Control, Ramsey Joins President’s Pane

Property reassessment figures just released seem to favor Mayor Nutter's push for real estate tax reform in Philadelphia. According to the first wave of data, the property tax rate under a new system would be considerably lower than the rates City Council predicted earlier this year.

Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey Jr. is changing his position on gun control. The Democrat has long been opposed to new gun control laws; however, in light of the child massacre in Newtown, CT he has reassessed his views and changed his mind. He says he is "haunted" by what occurred and how the weapons were used. Casey now says he would support any bill that bans military-style assault rifles and restricts high-capacity ammunition clips.

Charles Ramsey, Philadelphia's Police Commissioner was invited to join President Barrack Obama's advisory panel aimed at reducing gun violence. Ramsey will meet with Vice President Joe Biden today and the full panel on Friday. In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, the President wants to move swiftly to change policy and prevent mass shootings.
